Healthy cooking“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31

The benefits of healthy eating have been well documented through the years. Without this component you will never see optimal wellness. God asks you to honor Him with your body, both physically and spiritually. One of the ways you can honor Him is by eating the foods your body needs. God is our Provider. He has given us incredible natural food choices that are delicious and full of nutrients.

The American lifestyle, with its emphasis on ‘rush, rush, rush,’ has given way to making food choices that are more convenient rather than life giving. With a little bit of forethought you really can have a healthy diet. The challenge is that the guidelines for healthy living seem to change frequently, leaving you wondering what is appropriate and beneficial, and in what proportions.

To allow your body to function the way it was designed to try and follow these basic guidelines:

  • Eat foods as close to the way God created them. Typically, it is best to shop the perimeter of the grocery store and avoid the aisles where the majority of the items are highly processed leaving them depleted of nutrients.
  • Drink ½ your body weight in ounces of water each day. If you weight 150 pounds drink at least 75 ounces of water.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast, preferably including some lean protein. This is one of the most important things you can do to achieve a healthy weight.
  • Build your meals around fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein.
  • When truly hungry don’t be afraid to snack (something healthy). Several small meals will help you control your hunger and maintain proper blood-sugar levels.

The list I gave you is a great starting block. Food is a gift that God gave us for healthy living. He intended for you to live life abundantly. Take proper care of your body and you can start living that life today!
