DAY 11 – Healthy Eating Myth & Truth

MYTH: Intermittent fasting leads to weight loss

TRUTH: Intermittent fasting is defined as restricted eating on alternate days or a daily-time restriction. It has become very popular. But does it work? Fasting does have value physically as it allows our body to rest from the digestive process. It blesses us spiritually as it can bring us closer to our need for God. But does it lead to weight loss? It probably does not. Consider breathing. We breathe, on average, 20x a minute. If you held your breath for 1 minute, could you breathe normally once you started breathing again? Highly unlikely! It is very difficult to make good food choices and eat moderate amounts when you have been denying yourself food for an extended time period. JAMA, Journal of American Medical Association, reports that researchers found statistically insignificant difference in weight loss in the intermittent fasting group and control group. They also reported loss of lean muscle mass, possibly due to lack of protein intake.


What you are actually eating is more important than when you are eating.

It is easy to have faith when the road ahead seems clear and easy to navigate, but faith in times of uncertainty is a powerful expression of true faith. If you are unsure where your life is headed or what will happen next, come back to the hope you have in Christ and hold tight to the promises He has for you. Life may be unsure, but we can have hope for what God has in store for us.
