DAY 2- Healthy Eating Myth & Truth

MYTH: All Smoothies and Juices are Healthy

TRUTH: Not all smoothies & juices are created equal but when done right they can be healthy and delicious! When making a smoothie, whole fruit is best (vs. juice) and be sure to add at least one vegetable (power greens or spinach are great!) When you use whole fruit, the fiber remains, creating a lower glycemic index (rise in blood sugar). Adding a frozen avocado or zucchini creates a creamy texture without the sugar, but with the added nutrients. How much fruit to use? Here’s a tip: Ask yourself would I eat this quantity of fruit in one sitting? Meaning, a whole banana, a cup of strawberries, etc..if the answer is no, then scale it back. For juicing, most juicers remove the fiber completely, so I recommend you lower the volume by having a couple of shots throughout the day. If you go somewhere like Jamba juice, make it your own. Ask them to hold the agave and other sweeteners, hold the sherbet, and use plain Greek yogurt instead.
