As we talked about in Day 1, gaining control of your excessive eating starts by digging deep to recognize the thoughts and emotions that cause you to turn to food. As you talk to God, He will help you identify them. I encourage you to take those unhealthy thoughts captive and replace them with God’s truth about you. Reset your mind by reading the Bible – focusing on scripture that talks about your identity in Christ and believe who God says you are. Try to see yourself as He sees you. You are His child, you are valuable, you are an overcomer, and you are forgiven. This is just the beginning! Learn also about the amazing promises God offers to those who believe in Him.
Because God is on your side, I want to remind you that you are not alone in your battle. He has given you the power of His Spirit to help you overcome temptations and weaknesses. Pray and draw on His strength when you feel overwhelmed and vulnerable. He wants you to enjoy food and will help give you a new, healthy perspective on eating.
Here is the acronym I introduced in the video on Day 1. I think it will be very helpful as you partner with God:
• Ask Him,
• Believe He can help, and
• Check your motives
The battle to overcome overeating is a continuous effort and a daily surrendering of your heart. Each food choice you make is a decision that is either healthy and aligns with God’s best for you or is unhealthy and aligns with the enemy’s lies. I hope you always remember
that God is there for you to help you make those decisions and is also there to pick you up when you have setbacks. His grace is powerful, and His mercies are new every morning, which is a beautiful thing.
Approach this journey by taking one day, one meal, and one bite at a time. The hard work will pay off as you start to feel better physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You will have setbacks. Don’t be discouraged, keep moving forward, and celebrate the victories. God has begun a good work in you, and He will complete it!
I love these few lines from a poem by Kyle Idelman: “Nothing tastes better than the joy and satisfaction of knowing Christ. Nothing nourishes the soul as he does. Nothing feeds and strengthens and renews us like the time we spend with him each day.” It hurts my heart to think that you may be missing out on an intimate relationship with God. He wants to partner with you but, remember, you do have a role to play too. I encourage you to sit with Him, talk to Him, and allow Him the chance to talk to you.
