Something I Love

Something I LOVE to do is have conversations about Jesus. I love to hear how God is working in the lives of my friends, I love to discuss verses that don’t really make sense to me, I love sharing messages that God has put on my heart, but I especially love talking about Him to those who don’t understand or even believe in Him.

Too often I hear people say they are afraid to talk to others, especially unbelievers, about their faith because they don’t know the Bible well enough. They are afraid they will be asked something they don’t know the answer to. It is important that we study the Bible and know God’s word, but it is even more important to believe what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

“When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.”

No matter how well you know the Bible, it’s not up to you – it’s only the Holy Spirit working through you, guiding you and preparing the heart and mind of the person you are talking to that can make a difference.

It’s so easy to forget that God lives in us and His power works best on those who don’t think they know it all. Again, study and learn but don’t rely on your wisdom.

If I pray for the Spirit to guide me and I seek His voice, then I really can’t mess up – the results are in His hands not mine. To me this is so freeing and removes my fears.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    do not depend on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5)
