I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

John 8:11 — "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Shame can be sneaky. Sometimes it's not a big, overwhelming feeling. It's that little thought that creeps in when you see a picture of yourself and wish you looked different, replay a conversation and think, "Why did I say that?" or remember something from your past that you wish you could change.

Before you know it, those thoughts can convince you that you've messed up too many times or that you'll never quite measure up.

Here's something I've learned: The more we try to ignore shame or push it aside, the more influence it can have over us.

That's why I've been encouraging you to recognize those feelings and bring them to God. When we keep shame buried, it can quietly shape how we see ourselves. But when we're honest with God about what we're carrying, we begin making room for His truth.

And here's what I really want you to understand: There's a big difference between conviction and condemnation.

Conviction is one of the ways the Holy Spirit helps us recognize when something in our lives needs to change. It leads us toward repentance, forgiveness, and growth.

Condemnation, on the other hand, keeps us focused on our failures. It tells us we're not good enough, that we'll never change, or that God must be disappointed in us.

Think about the woman caught in adultery in John 8. The people around her were ready to condemn her, but Jesus treated her differently.

He didn't pretend her sin didn't matter. He offered her mercy and told her to leave her life of sin.

Jesus didn't condemn her, but He also didn't leave her where she was.

I love that picture of God's grace. He loves us right where we are, and because He loves us, He wants to help us grow and change.

Yesterday, I encouraged you to spend some quiet time talking with God about the shame you've been carrying. I hope you were able to do that.

As you think about that time, consider this: Were your thoughts leading you toward God's forgiveness and a desire to grow? Or were they keeping you stuck in feelings of worthlessness and regret?

Remember, God's conviction leads us toward Him. Shame and condemnation make us want to pull away.

And please remember this: God isn't keeping a scorecard of your mistakes.

He knows your struggles, your weaknesses, and the things you wish you could change. He invites you to come to Him honestly, receive His forgiveness, and allow Him to help you grow.

You don't have to pretend you're doing better than you are, and you don't have to keep punishing yourself for things God has already forgiven.

God isn't asking you to be perfect before you come to Him. He's asking you to trust Him enough to come as you are and allow Him to continue His work in you.
