Pesto sauce is incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of ways to add delicious flavor. You can use it as a condiment on a sandwich, a pizza sauce, a dipping sauce, a marinade for meats, or toss it in prepared pasta.

Ingredients 

  • 1 ½ cups fresh basil (bottom portion of stems removed)
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese (freshly grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (peeled)
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • â…“ cup walnuts (shelled)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • â…“ cup vegetable broth (amount may vary add slowly)

Instructions 

  • Put all ingredients into a blender and pulse until somewhat smooth.

Notes

This makes 1 1/2 cups and can be stored in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
